The film, “Govi Thaththa” (Father, the farmer) is introduced as the first of its kind in Asia to portray the tragedies people and the environment are faced with today due to moving away from nature-friendly agro practices of the past to adopt chemical-based agriculture. This movie is considered as the first-ever movie directed by a musician and produced by a farmer.

Leaving a giant footprint in Sri Lankan music industry, Darshana Ruwan Dissanayake, an award-winning musician has reportedly entered the film industry as the first-ever music director to direct a movie. The production of the film ‘Govi Thaththa’ based on the story of a farmer from the village Unagala Vehera, Premarathna Dissanayake, father of Darshana Ruwan Dissanayake.

Sarath Bandara Kokwewa, founder of Kokwewa Creations who is coming from a traditional agricultural family joined hands with Darshana Ruwan Dissanayake to produce the movie, Govi Thaththa. Being a farmer himself paved the way to portray the tragedies of traditional farmers across the movie.
